The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO), the office in Cluj-Napoca, carried out searches on Thursday in several locations in Brăila county, as part of an investigation into a fraud of over half a million euros with funds for agriculture, produced by an official and his family to.

According to a press release from the EPPO, there were resignations in the office of the official involved in this case, at three companies and four residences.

The investigation concerns a civil servant from Gropeni commune, Brăila county, who is supposed to have obtained 561,000 euros from EU agricultural funds by falsifying documents in the name of an individual enterprise and a commercial company.

The falsified documents were submitted to the Romanian Agency for Payments and Intervention in Agriculture (APIA) – Brăila County Center in order to purchase between 270 and 427 hectares of land in the period 2013-2020.

It is assumed that the civil servant was, in reality, the one who administered the sole proprietorship and the commercial company, instead of his wife and son, who were appointed as legal administrators.

All three people will be brought to the headquarters of the police unit for questioning, and legal measures will be ordered against them.

Dozens of police officers from the Galati Organized Crime Brigade and the Romanian Gendarmerie – Brăila County Gendarmerie Inspectorate participate in the searches.
