The Minister of Justice, Alina Gorghiu, said on Thursday about the extradition of Prince Paul of Romania from France that considering that he has dual nationality, both Romanian and French, from the perspective of French magistrates and the legislation there, he is eligible to serve his sentence in France , she noting that no official request has been made at this time for the recognition of the decision and the execution of the sentence in France.

“Related to this person convicted in Romania, according to the information of colleagues from the General Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Paris Court of Appeal, and this is recent information that I can provide you, through the liaison magistrate, he had a first term in front of Paris Court of Appeal on April 17, very recently. Considering that he has dual nationality, both Romanian and French, from the perspective of the magistrates in France and the legislation there, he is eligible to be able to serve the sentence in France, as it appears from the communications I had with the Prosecutor’s Office, on April 16”, declared Alina Gorghiu.

The Minister of Justice pointed out that “no official request has been made at this time for the recognition of the decision and the execution of the sentence in France”.

“I checked with my colleagues from the Braşov Court and they told me that this request was not made. The only request that has been made to the court, until this moment, is to translate the European arrest warrant into French,” Gorghiu said.

Alina Gorghiu also stated that she has no answer from her counterpart in France, to “that extremely unpleasant incident by which the Prosecutor’s Office in France forgot to give reasons for the appeal”.

“We don’t have an answer at the moment, I wrote that communication to the Minister of Justice in France showing our dissatisfaction with that extremely unpleasant incident, the Prosecutor’s Office in France forgot to give reasons for the appeal, something rare and difficult to understand at such a level, but I can understand just as well that the Ministry of Justice is not competent, but I expect the minister to be able to ask the system what happened in that case”, added Gorghiu.
