This evening started in Bănie, the series counting for the 11-14 places in the first men’s basketball league between SCMU Craiova and SCM Timişoara. At the end of a very balanced game, the Oltenians defeated the Banatians, 87-80.

The viola team did not play a bad match, on the contrary, they played well, won two quarters, led in the third sequence with ten points, but it was not enough. The hosts took the first quarter and the last, the latter being decisive in the fate of the game. Little details made the difference in the end, with the hosts impressing on half-distance shots, making 26 two-point baskets out of 36 attempts, at a percentage of almost 70%, compared to only 14 out of 29 of the Timișoara team. In rebounds, the “Juves” were also better, 34-30, the statistics being favorable to the white-violets in three-pointers, 14-9 and decisive passes, 21-15.

Robert Schipor, the nice surprise of the party

Timisoara’s young player Robert Schipor, 20 years old, played an excellent match, Dragan Petricevic having faith in him and keeping him on the field for 40 minutes. Robi made four of five field goals, finishing the game with a personal-best 12 points and 4 rebounds.

Gajic – 19 points, 6 rebounds, Rayshawn Laron Simmons, 11 points, 5 rebounds, 6 decisive assists and Adam Mirkovic, 11 points and 6 decisive assists, also stood out from Banat. From the hosts, Giordan Lee Watson scored 21 points and 9 assists, Matthew Jon Freeman – 18 points, Pavlo Krutous – 17 points and Samuel Lee Jr Sessoms – 15 points.

Match 2, played according to the best-of-three system, takes place on Monday, in Timisoara.
