President CJ Prahova, under investigation for corruption, submitted his candidacy for a new mandate UPDATE Bode notified the Court of Arbitration of the PNL

--

The president of the Prahova County Council (CJ), the liberal Iulian Dumitrescu, investigated under judicial control for acts of corruption, having been banned from exercising his position, submitted, on Wednesday, his candidacy for a new mandate to the head of the CJ.

“The decision was taken following discussions with the mayors and other local elected officials who asked Dumitrescu to ensure continuity at the level of the county administration in the context of projects of over three billion euros from European funds that CJ Prahova managed to attract in his mandate”, announces PNL Prahova, in a press release.

In relation to the criminal case against him, Iulian Dumitrescu maintains that he has the legal and constitutional right to run for office, collaborates with the criminal investigation institutions, considers himself innocent and expects a solution as soon as possible from the judiciary, the quoted source says.

“I am entering the electoral competition as a man, openly and confidently, with the determination of a man who has been through the storm and with the conviction that I have the duty to complete projects that are so necessary for the citizens of Prahoven to have a better life.

In relation to the criminal case in which I was involved, I want to tell the citizens clearly: I am innocent, I trust the Justice, I know that the truth will come out and that justice will be done”, declared, according to the mentioned communique, Iulian Dumitrescu .

He also claims that he decided to run out of “respect” for the people of Prague and for the local elected officials.

“It was not an easy decision, but, out of respect for the people of Prahov and for the local elected officials, I decided to run for a new mandate and to provide continuity at the level of the County Council. Together with these people – mayors, vice-mayors, local and county councilors – , we managed to do in 3 years in Prahova what was not done in 30 years before”, said Iulian Dumitrescu.

Iulian Dumitrescu is being investigated by anti-corruption prosecutors for bribery and false declarations and is prohibited from exercising his position as president of CJ Prahova.

UPDATE: Bode notified the Court of Arbitration of the PNL

The general secretary of the PNL, Lucian Bode, declared on Wednesday, for Agerpres, that he notified the Court of Arbitration of the PNL regarding the candidacy of Iulian Dumitrescu for the position of president of the Prahova County Council (CJ).

“Discussing with Mr. President Ciucă and colleagues from the party leadership, I made the decision to address the Court of Arbitration, as general secretary of the PNL, and request a point of view regarding the interpretation of article 86 of the statute, namely the powers of the Political Bureau National. The BPN validates the county coordination councils’ proposal for the position of mayor of the county, the mayor of Bucharest and the mayors of the sectors, in the interpretation of our colleagues from Prahova. Consequently, they considered that there is no need for the BPN’s validation for the candidacy of Dom Iulian Dumitrescu for the presidency of the County Council”, said Bode.

He added that on Thursday there will be a meeting of the National Political Bureau (BPN) of the PNL, where the subject of Iulian Dumitrescu’s candidacy will be discussed.
