The circular economy is not a fad, believes Irina Siminenco, Corporate Affairs Manager at Nestle Romania, who believes that we must give special importance to resistance to change, this being the only constant and the only certainty in our lives.

Irina Siminenco explained: “I think that resistance to change is very important. I am part of the generation that spent its childhood with my grandparents. My grandparents had vegetables, animals and 80% of our food was provided by what the earth offered us. When I went to school, I moved to the city. My grandparents still helped us with food, but after they were gone, willy-nilly, we remained dependent on what we could get within the urban system in which we lived. After some time I got a job at Nestle and I discovered the responsibility of feeding consumers in 190 countries. Thus, we are dealing with a great resistance to change. And this is where I have a strategy for my family and for those in my care and for Nestle’s consumers, the authorities have their strategies. The strategies set our roles and responsibilities and create a predictable framework to carry out our activity. Of course, they are not designed to solve all our problems.”

According to Irina Siminenco, more and more economic operators invest in regenerative recycling, to the detriment of chemical recycling, Nestle being one of these companies. “We want none of our packaging to be thrown into nature, but our business strategy needs to be corroborated with the strategies of other operators, with the strategies of the authorities and our social partners, etc. It is important that this strategy allows us to carry out our activity in the best conditions and we must ensure that what we do in production and distribution helps, not destroys”.

Among other things, the Nestle Romania representative says that it is necessary to take responsibility for the development of a circular economy.
