On the eve of the June 9 elections with exceptionally high stakes for the PSDPNL coalition, USR Bihor has noticed an alarming increase in the number of floating visas in several localities in the county. This phenomenon raises serious questions about the integrity and fairness of the electoral process.

The recent legislative amendment, urgently promoted by the PSD-PNL coalition, which allows the registration of floating visas 60 days before the elections, seems to be exploited for questionable electoral purposes. Although this measure was officially justified as a support for young people studying, the analysis of data from the last five weeks indicates a doubling of the number of visas in localities such as Buntești (40 new visas in the last five weeks), Câmpani (100), Căpâlna ( 93), Criștioru de Jos (90), Lunca (131), Sârbi (206), Sâmbăta (80), Vașcau (175).

“They first made fun of the young people who are studying in the cities where they don’t live. The students were forced to return home in the middle of the session to vote. Under the pressure of the youth, the PSDPNL commissioners quickly changed the law, as in a true autocracy, and allowed the floating visas to be valid 60 days before the election date. Measure silently welcomed by many mayors who use this tool to keep power in their community. Artificially creating vote floaters is stealing the votes of the people who work and live in these communities, their will no longer relevant.” said Silviu Dehelean, Member of Parliament for Bihor and president of USR Bihor.

This “explosion” of floating visas not only undermines the spirit of the law, intended to facilitate participation in the vote, but serves the desire for absolute power of the PSDPNL coalition, which seems to use this tool to artificially influence the election results.

These practices are not new, PSD and PNL have repeatedly demonstrated that they can pervert the electoral process for their own benefit.

“What we see in the tables with floating visas is the extent to which the elections will be flawed in Bihor County. It is not a new maneuver. On the contrary, PSD and PNL are masters at perverting the electoral process. They have done it in the past, they will do it now. And through these maneuvers they will steal the votes of those who actually live in the respective communities. They will steal their right to a civilized, 21st century life”, added Alex Orjan, USR Bihor candidate for the presidency of the County Council.

In the face of this situation, USR Bihor launches a call to all citizens of good faith to be actively involved in protecting democracy, but also to the competent authorities to verify the obvious situations and take the necessary measures. It is essential that each of us takes action.

“Every vote counts. Massive voter turnout is the strongest antidote to election fraud attempts. USR Bihor is firm in defending democratic values and a clean and fair electoral process that reflects the true will of the citizens of our county”, USR Bihor transmits.
