Photoprotection, that is, the use of products to protect the skin from exposure to ultraviolet radiation, is necessary for each of us. When photoprotection is indicated, how to choose products with sun protection factor (SPF) and how to apply them to the skin, we learn from Dr. Rodica Badea, dermatovenerology specialist.

Photoprotection is necessary to protect the skin from ultraviolet radiation. Under the action of this type of radiation, skin cells can degenerate, leading to skin cancer. Regular use of products with sun protection factor has been scientifically proven to reduce the harmful effect of solar radiation on the skin, including the risk of squamous cell cancer or melanoma.

Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that forms from cells that produce the pigment that colors the skin, called melanocytes. Melanoma can be said to be the most aggressive type of skin cancer, with a high rate of metastasis, i.e. spreading in the body. However, many modern oncological treatments have increased the life expectancy of melanoma patients, even in cases where there are already metastases.
