The budget of Sibiu grew in the first quarter more than the local administration expected. Many Siberians paid their taxes in full

In the first quarter of 2024, the municipality of Sibiu registered a 31.21% increase in operating income compared to initial expectations. This increase is largely attributed to local taxes and fees, with many taxpayers choosing to pay their tax obligations in full in order to benefit from the 10% bonus, according to what was mentioned by the Economic Department within the City Hall. Thus, the revenues from taxes and fees on property and on means of transport brought a surplus of over 46 million lei in the first quarter compared to the budget provisions approved in the draft local budget for 2024.

The data are mentioned in the draft decision prepared by the management of the mayor’s office and submitted to the local council in order to approve the execution of the budgets of the operation and development section for the first quarter of this year.

According to the project, the situation is different in terms of expenses, which are lower than expected. The operating ones were realized in proportion of 73.37%, and those of the development section of the municipality were realized in proportion of only 21.06% of the proposed plan. This is because of the weather conditions: “only starting from March, some of the investment works that were suspended during the winter due to the weather conditions were resumed”.

Thus, the data of the local administration show that, compared to the same period of 2023, it can be noted that the revenues of the operating section related to the first quarter of 2024 increased from 200.2 million lei to almost 210 million lei.

Regarding the expenses of the operating section, an increase from 91.6 million lei in the first quarter of 2023 to 117.4 million lei in the first quarter of 2024 is noted, motivated by the fact that “in January, a series of expenses were made related to the year 2023, because they could not be paid at the end of the previous year, due to the restrictions imposed by the legislation”.

Also, the revenues of the development section were 21.2 million lei in the first quarter of 2024, compared to 43.3 million lei in the first quarter of 2023. And the expenses of the development section were 16.1 million lei, compared to 29, 4 million lei last year.
