Romania risks losing money from the PNRR. Marcel Ciolacu: ‘I do not agree to lower this threshold again’

--

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Wednesday that he does not intend to propose to the European Commission another lower threshold of 500,000 euros than the one approved at the end of last month, but he did not rule out negotiations.

“I didn’t make the PNRR. I was in the opposition and yelled that I can’t read the PNRR because it is kept secret. I now went to Brussels, I showed Mrs. Ursula von der Leyen and she said: “this is what you wrote with your hand”. (…) Now they come, like the hypocrites that they are, and say “look, sir, what happened”. Well, you left, you passed. Let Mr. Cîțu come and tell you how he went with the micro-enterprises there to be up to 100,000, up to 60,000, how the threshold is lowered. He passed with his hand. What did the coalition do? He then decided to decrease from 1,000,000 to 500,000 thousand. The highest threshold of 200,000 euros in Europe was in Portugal and there it decreased.

At this moment I have discussed with the Commission, we have Milestone 206, which is included in Payment Request number 3, let’s have a negotiation in Brussels, because I don’t agree, especially since it already decreased last year, not even a fiscal year, let’s lower that threshold again. But these things are negotiable. If not, the Commission considers that Romania loses 500 million euros because it does not lower the threshold for micro-enterprises. But we will try, as we did with the deficit,” said Marcel Ciolacu, in the DCNews interviews.
