Work on the M4 metro line will start in no more than a year and a half, and within five years all 14 metro stations must be completed.

“We are betting that in six months we will be able to sign the execution contract. We want the movement to be as efficient as possible. Realistically, we will not see machines earlier than a year and a half. We have to take into account that there are 14 stations. Each of them needs a complex design.

The M4 extension project, between Gara de Nord and Gara Progresul, represents a culmination of the efforts that Sector 4 has made in recent years to open roads where they did not exist.

For this, which generates not only the development of critical infrastructure, but also well-paid jobs, we had to, together with our partners, generate a new way of working, a pattern that works efficiently and can be used, for sure and by other public authorities.

In this project, as well as in the construction of the Tudor Arghezi metro station, we managed, together with the representatives of Metrorex, to show that nothing is impossible and that, working together, we can help the city to develop as it should”, said today, Daniel Băluță, the mayor of Sector 4, during a press conference organized at the Tudor Arghezi metro station.

The extension of the metro line will cost approximately 2.5 billion euros, non-refundable European money, which will be accessed through the “Transport Program” of the European Union 2021-2027. This investment is probably the biggest investment in Bucharest in recent years, the degree of financing being 100%.

The route of the 14 stations

The route of the new M4 metro line will have a number of 14 stations, which will be laid out over a total length of approximately 12 kilometers, between the Gara de Nord 2 station and the Gara Progresul station, and which will cross the territory of sectors 1, 4 and 5, as well as Jilava commune in Ilfov county. The 14 stations of the new route are: Northern Station 2 – Știrbei Vodă – Bogdan Petriceicu Hașdeu – Uranus – George Rozorea – Chirigiu – Filaret – Heroes of the Revolution 2 – George Bacovia – Toporași – Nicolae Cajal – Luică – Giurgiului – Progresul Station.
