Four important Romanian television stations disappear from the program grid. According to the information on Paginademedia.ro, the four sports channels that will be closed during this summer are those owned by Orange Sport: Orange Sport 1, Orange Sport 2, Orange Sport 3 and Orange Sport 4. More precisely, the Orange Sport televisions are closing, and the television administrator, Orlando Nicoară, has already notified the employees about the future layoffs.

“In the context of the strategy to simplify the services that Orange offers, the decision was made that the Orange Sport stations will be closed before the start of the new competitive season 2024-2025”, informs the mentioned source.

In the spring of 2022, sports television became the property of Orange, with the takeover of the communications company Telekom România Communications.

At the same time, it was decided to change the name of the television stations from Telekom Sport to Orange Sport.

What the company sent

Clever Media is the company that owns Prima Sport television and managed the operation of the Orange Sport stations. The company wanted to send a message to all subscribers.

Taking into account the professionalism you have shown, we will get involved, where necessary, so that all colleagues affected by this decision receive offers from the market.”

The telecommunications company lost millions of euros in 2023

At the beginning of the year, Orange Romania revealed its financial situation from 2023. According to the data provided by the company, its turnover registered a decrease. Thus, in 2023, Orange’s turnover in Romania was 1.551 billion euros, registering a decrease of 1.2% compared to the previous year. In the fourth quarter of the year, the Orange Romania Group recorded a consolidated turnover of 407 million euros, a moderate increase of 1.5% compared to Q4 2022.

In December 2023, the Orange Romania Group provided mobile services to 9.5 million customers, fixed broadband internet to 1.1 million customers and cable and satellite television services to 1.1 million customers.
