SCANDAL… A training session held at the end of February ended with the descent of several thugs into the players’ locker room.

TIGHT MUSCLES … Although they play in the 3rd league, the football team financed by Vaslui City Hall causes unsuspected passions among its players. A training session at the end of February ended with several thugs descending on the players’ locker room, and only the prompt intervention of the technical staff prevented the incident from turning into a full-blown brawl. It all started after two of the team’s members, Sergiu Gîrdea and Vali Hagiu, threw harsh words at each other during training. At the end of the exercises, the latter went to the locker room, got his hands on the phone and called several friends, known in the Vaslui underworld, for help. Two of them would have entered the locker room, to fix Sergiu Gîrdea, but they were stopped before the scandal degenerated. Following the conflict, Vali Hagiu was excluded from the team and made to train alone, but because he was not offered all the conditions, he turned to the footballers’ union, which advised him to sue CSM Vaslui, which was and happened. Until this final separation is reached, the club management tried to reconcile, proposing to the players to vote if they want Hagiu’s return to the team. Out of a total of 23 players, only one agreed.

Vali Hagiu

Vali Hagiu’s story at CSM Vaslui began last summer, when, left without a team, he was co-opted into the red-white-blue team. Before signing the contract with the club, Hagiu was used in a friendly with Șiința Miroslava, a match in which he suffered a serious injury, which kept him away from the field for more than half a year. At the time of the injury, CSM Vaslui had a moral obligation towards him, which he honored by offering him a contract, with a fairly substantial salary, while also ensuring his recovery expenses. Months passed, Vali Hagiu succeeded and got back on his feet, but just as he was getting ready to return to the field, he hit the ground running. It happened on February 27 of this year, during a team training on the track of the Municipal stadium. After two series of intense exercises, the staff gave the players a well-deserved break, but being more rested than the rest of his colleagues, Vali asked to resume the exercises, which angered Sergiu Gîrdea.

Sergiu Girdea

He asked him to respect his teammates, who were barely breathing because of the effort. A fight broke out between the two, immediately cut short by Gabi Crăciun, the team’s de facto coach. He continued to hold his training, firmly convinced that the dispute between his two players was over. However, after the final whistle, Vali Hagiu ran to the locker room, grabbed the phone and called reinforcements to the stadium. In a few minutes, a car carrying five men, including his father-in-law, stopped in front of the changing rooms.

“Everything is okay?”

Gabi Crăciun

I contacted Gabi Crăciun to ask him to explain what happened, after training, in the locker room. “While the team was changing, one of those people called by Hagiu entered the locker room. He just asked if everything was okay. That’s it. He turned and went outside. Ionuț Petricenco was the one who had the inspiration to go after him, he somehow anticipated that Sergiu was expected. Ionuț talked to those who were waiting in front of the changing rooms, advised them to get in the car and leave, and that’s what happened. But if we weren’t there and Girdea left the locker room without knowing what was waiting for him, who knows what could happen. We still play for the city team, which is financed by Vaslui City Hall. We also have some rules to respect, we cannot resort to such gestures. The most disappointed by this whole situation is me, because I insisted that Vali Hagiu be brought to the team. I’ve known him since he was 13 and I never expected him to do something like this. That evening I spoke with the other colleagues from the technical staff and decided to exclude Vali Hagiu from the team. We were firmly convinced that, realizing the mistakes made, he would come to sign the termination of the contract himself. The next day he was informed that he had to sign the termination of the contract, but he refused, on the grounds that he had done nothing wrong. He didn’t want to sign, therefore he was informed that he was going to train alone”, Gabi Crăciun told us.

Democracy from CSM Vaslui

After a few days of penance, the management of CSM Vaslui came up with the proposal that Vali Hagiu be returned to the team. In an exercise in logic-free democracy, the proposal was put to a vote, but of the 23 players, only one agreed. “There were probably more, but the vote took place after the match with Rădăuți, in which we were defeated with a score of 2-0. Immediately after the match, Vali Hagiu posted the score on Instagram with the message “karma”. The match with Rădăuți was particularly important for us, because a win brought us very close to the play-offs. At the end of the 90 minutes, we were all down, and when we also saw that post, naturally we didn’t like it. You can’t claim to be part of a team when you make such gestures. Therefore, it was voted that Vali Hagiu will no longer be accepted into the batch”, Gabi Crăciun also declared. Excluded from the team and made to train alone, Vali Hagiu submitted a memorandum, through the footballers’ union. He appealed to the sports courts, requesting CSM Vaslui to pay him three outstanding salaries and an amount of money spent on medicines. We tried to contact him and the player expelled from CSM Vaslui by phone, but he refused to answer the calls of Vremea Nouă editors.
