The Ministry of Education wants to allocate new funds to build toilets in schools that still have toilets in the yard, without running water and sewage. Thus, a draft government decision provides for the transfer of some funds for the installation of compliant sanitary groups in 227 schools that do not have such toilets. Two educational units from Gorj are also on the list. It is about Secondary School no. 1 Albeni (166 thousand lei) and Primary School No. 2 Sterpoaia from Aninoasa commune (77 thousand lei). Specifically, the project provides for the allocation of approximately 20 million lei as follows: 7.83 million lei for schools that received funding in 2023 as well, for the arrangement of sanitary facilities and the provision of utilities, but in the case of which the local authorities either did not use the money, or they have not finished the works by December 31, 2023 – in total, 93 educational units and 11.88 million lei for the financing of works of this kind in other schools that do not have compliant sanitary groups at the moment – in total, 134 educational units. This money is transferred to the local budgets of the administrative-territorial units where those schools operate. The government has been allocating such funds since 2019. The procedures for the acquisition of investment works and the development of contracts are the responsibility of local authorities, who have the use of this money.
