The Romanian national football team has established the schedule of friendly matches that it still has to play until EURO 2024. For some time, the FRF has announced two more opponents for Edward Iordănescu’s representative team, after the friendlies with Northern Ireland (score 1-1) and Colombia (score 2-3).

Thus, before the Romanian senior national team moves to Germany, for the final tournament scheduled between June 14 and July 14, 2024, it will have two more verification meetings. On June 4, the tricolors of Edward Iordănescu will face Bulgaria, and three days later, on June 7, they will meet Liechtenstein.

Romania plays the last friendlies before the EURO at the Steaua Stadium

Both games will take place in Ghencea, at the Steaua Stadium, where Daniel Oprița’s team plays in the League 2 championship. The duel with Liechtenstein was supposed to take place on June 8, but it was finally scheduled a day earlier .

The first match that Romania played in Ghencea took place in the 2022 World Cup preliminaries, in October 2021, against Armenia, won 1-0. Then, there was the game with Iceland, also from the World Cup preliminaries, score 0-0, but also the friendly match with Greece, from March 2022, score 0-1.

After the games in Ghencea, Romania goes to Germany, for the EURO

The meetings with Bulgaria and Liechtenstein will be the last friendly matches for the Romanian national team, before traveling to Germany, for the European Championship games.

The Romania – Liechtenstein match, originally scheduled for June 8, will take place one day earlier, on June 7, also at the Steaua stadium in Bucharest.

Following the dialogue with the representatives of the Football Federation of Liechtenstein, the match between the two teams was brought forward by one day. Thus, the program of the tricolors before leaving for Germany for EURO 2024 is this:

  • June 4: Romania – Bulgaria, live on Prima TV & RRA
  • June 7: Romania – Liechtenstein, live on Antena 1 & RRA

Both matches will take place at the Steaua stadium in Bucharest. Dispute times will be determined later in conjunction with the rights holders. (…)”, announced the FRF.

The tricolors start EURO 2024 against Ukraine, on June 17

In the summer, Romania will stay approximately 100 kilometers from the city of Frankfurt, Germany, and will train in the Wurzburg training base. Our national team is part of Group E at Euro 2024:

  • June 17: ROMANIA – Ukraine (Munich, 16:00), Belgium – Slovakia (Frankfurt, 19:00)
  • June 21: Slovakia – Ukraine (Dusseldorf, 16:00)
  • June 22: Belgium – ROMANIA (Koln, 22:00)
  • June 26: Slovakia – ROMANIA (Frankfurt, 19:00), Ukraine – Belgium (Stuttgart, 19:00)

In the elimination stages, the top two ranked teams from each group will qualify, as well as the best four third places from the six groups.

For me, at this moment, the national team of Romania through these wonderful boys represents a second family. But, and there is a big but, time is running out fast between now and the European and we need to be more pragmatic than ever.

If until now, to a large extent, my decisions and those of the staff were primarily made with the mind and very little with the soul, from now on, unfortunately, they will have to be made exclusively with the mind.

Preparations for the EURO started from the moment we found out our opponents! We achieved a performance, we qualified, we were happy, there were feelings, but from now on we have to say: stop! Stop! Already, the preliminaries belong to another world!

I can honestly say that I was very disappointed: after achieving this fantastic qualification, still many of our boys are not going through very good periods at the clubs.

Either they don’t play or they play very little. I am with them totally, my trust has been demonstrated countless times, they know it. But they have to put in the effort and come 100 percent ready when we meet in March“, said Edward Iordănescu after qualifying for the EURO.
