“King Ferdinand I” Rapid Chess Cup. In Alba Iulia, between May 11-12, the “King Ferdinand I” Rapid Chess Cup will take place. The prize pool of the tournament is 31,000 lei.

The organizers of the event are the Alba Iulia City Hall, CSM Unirea Alba Iulia in partnership with the “Mihnea Costachi” Chess Academy and the Children’s Palace from Alba Iulia.

The competition will take place at the Palace of the Princes, the Transilvania hall in the Alba Carolina Citadel. The tournament director is the Albaiulian chess player Mihnea Costachi.

The game format in the tournament will be quick Swiss, 9 rounds, 15 min+5 sec/move.

Only FIDE players will be able to participate in the competition, the maximum number of participants being 130.

Saturday, May 11

  • 10:30 – Opening ceremony and technical session
  • 11:00 – 13:00 – Rounds 1 – 2
  • 15:30 – 19:30 – Rounds 3 – 6

Sunday, May 12

  • 09:30 – 12:30 – Rounds 7 – 9
  • 13:30 – Closing ceremony and awarding of prizes

The prize fund of the competition is 31,000 lei:

  • 1st place – 5,000 lei
  • 2nd place – 4,000 lei
  • 3rd place – 3,000 lei
  • 4th place – 2,500 lei
  • 5th place – 2,000 lei
  • 6th place – 1,500 lei
  • 7th place – 1,000 lei
  • 8th place – 800 lei
  • 9th place – 600 lei
  • 10th place – 400 lei
  • The first 3 places for women – 1,000, 700, 500 lei
  • First 3 places between 1800 and 2100 rating – 600, 400, 300 lei
  • The first 3 places under 1800 rating – 600, 400, 300 lei
  • The first 3 places for juniors born between 2004 and 2009 – 600, 400, 300 lei
  • The first 3 places for juniors born between 2010 and 2013 – 600, 400, 300 lei
  • The first 3 places for juniors born in 2014 and after – 600, 400, 300 lei
  • First place in each age category (50+, 60+, 70+) – 500 lei

“King Ferdinand I” Rapid Chess Cup. Participation fees

  • Mature players, rating over 2400 – no entry fee
  • Female players, rating over 2200 – no entry fee
  • Juniors U20 and seniors 60+ – 60 lei
  • Seniors (open) – 120 lei
  • Senior citizens residing in Alba county – 80 lei
