UPDATE at 20.30: After 6 hours of negotiations, the trade unionists are analyzing the proposal made by the Romanian Post and the Ministry of Digitalization, announced the BNS.

Specifically, the proposal is a wage increase in two installments: on July 1, when the minimum wage increases to 3,700 lei gross, from the current 3,300 lei gross, and on September 1, when it could increase by another 420 lei crude.

Thus, cumulatively, a Romanian Post employee will receive an average net monthly salary increase of 369 lei per month.

“Tomorrow morning, around 10:00 a.m., after all SLPR members have been consulted, the decision to continue or stop the strike will be communicated. Until then, the general strike continues!”, the trade unionists said.

UPDATE at 15.05: To unblock the strike, the Ministry of Digitization will organize a negotiation session at 4:00 p.m. in which Minister Bogdan Ivan, heads of the Romanian Post and a delegation of the National Trade Union Bloc will participate.

UPDATE at 14.40: More than 7,000 members of the Postal Workers Union, from 32 counties, are on strike right now, according to the National Union Bloc.

UPDATE at 1:25 p.m.: More than half of the employees of the post offices in Vrancea went on a general strike, reported Agerpres. The postmen who carried the mail and pensions refused to go to the field and demanded an increase in wages and improvement of working conditions.

“I want to apologize for the inconvenience caused to all our customers, and especially pensioners, who entered this game through no fault of their own. At this moment, a commission is in Bucharest, at the ministry, to negotiate again, hoping to find some solutions. Our postmen are prepared to leave even today with their pensions, if we get a positive response and reach an agreement regarding our demands. If not, we will continue the strike”, said the leader of SLPR Vrancea, Ionuţ Bercaru.

UPDATE at 12:20 p.m.: In Buzău, confrontations took place in the street between the protesters and the employees sent from Bucharest to replace them, according to the video sequences transmitted by the NBS.

UPDATE at 11:00 a.m.: Romanian Post employees, on general strike, “will send thousands of letters” to the leaders of the PSD-PNL coalition, Marcel Ciolacu and Nicolae Ciucă, “to draw their attention to their current salaries”, the National Bloc reported Union.

“Starting today, the e-mail addresses of the two political leaders, Marcel Ciolacu and Nicolae Ciucă, will be filled with the messages of the postal workers on strike,” the statement said.

The SNB presented 5 examples of such letters, and in one of them, an employee says that he has 34 years of experience in the Romanian Post Office and a net monthly salary of 1,643 lei.

UPDATE 10.40 am: More than 500 postmen from Buzău went on a general strike and accuse pressure from the company’s management to return to work, Agerpres reported. They claim that after decades of work, they are paid salaries that do not even cover their daily expenses and medical treatments.

Since the early hours of the morning, the postmen closed the offices and posted messages at the entrances saying “General strike, we want decent wages”. Unionists accused the company’s management of sending postal workers from other areas of the country to break the strike.

UPDATE 10.20 am: The Romanian Post claims that the activity “runs normally in most counties of the country” and that “the activity in the largest structure of the Romanian Post National Company – Bucharest Post Courier Office is carried out under normal conditions”.

Original news: On Monday morning, April 1, the trade unionists accused pressure from the management of the company, which they say sent employees from Bucharest to replace those from the Logistic and Courier Regional Cluj HUB, who are on strike, reports Mediafax.

The postal workers from Cluj demanded that those coming from the Capital leave the HUB because they are not employees of this branch of the Romanian Post, it is specified in a press release of the trade unionists.

The demands of trade unionists

According to the National Bank of Romania, “it is well known that many of the employees of the Romanian Post have salaries at the minimum level in the economy”.

“Today, after receiving the information and when we know from the governors that the minimum wage will become 3,700 lei from July 2024, we see how serious the situation is in reality. 18,000 of the more than 21,000 employees of the Romanian Post, i.e. a percentage of 90%, regardless of their position, regardless of their responsibilities and seniority, from July 2024 they will have the minimum wage in the economy!”, reports the National Trade Union Bloc .

Specifically, Romanian Post employees are demanding a 400 lei increase in salaries and an increase in the loyalty bonus granted to employees with seniority in the company.

The trade unionists claim that the Romanian Post responded to their demands “by establishing a house union, led by the former general director of the company and former advisor to the current general director, together with which he signed an agreement by which the postmen were promised wage increases on which the law actually imposes on them in July 2024”.

At the same time, the trade unionists ask the “beneficiaries of the services provided by the Romanian Post, mainly pensioners and social categories as poor as the postmen” to stand by them and ask the company to quickly resolve their requests.

The specifications of the Romanian Post

The company said on Sunday, March 31, that it had provided employees with all available financial resources to avoid the strike.

“The company requested mediation, but the SLPR representatives refused this. In the context in which the intense negotiations carried out since the end of last year between the Romanian Post National Company and the SLPR did not reach a result, and the SLPR decided to initiate a general strike by part of the employees”, stated the Romanian Post.

Also, Romanian Post stated that the more than two million pensioners who receive the money through the company will not be affected by the burden on employees.

“We assure the more than two million pensioners who receive their social rights through the Romanian National Post Company that there will not be a single person who will not receive their rights on time, in April! All social rights will be delivered on time, until April 15, as we have assumed the commitment!”, stated the Romanian Post.

According to the Romanian Post Office, “the overwhelming majority, over 80% of employees, will perform their work duties professionally, as before! Approximately 20% of the Company’s employees joined the collective labor dispute in writing”.
