THE WEDDING OF FIGARO

“The Marriage of Figaro” (according to the original title “Le nozze di Figaro”, registered K 492 in the catalog of Mozart’s works) is an opera whose music was composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to a libretto written in Italian by Lorenzo da Ponte, which was inspired by and based on Pierre Caron de Beaumarchais’ comedy La folle journée ou Le mariage de Figaro. The absolute premiere of the opera took place on May 1, 1786, at the “Burgtheater” in Vienna.
