The beggars from Cluj, increasingly inventive: “I ask for fake funds with an open map in my hand”

In recent years, Cluj-Napoca has become a magnet for beggars from all over the country. They started to be reported in all the neighborhoods of Cluj, regardless of whether we are talking about the courtyard of some churches, the parking lots of shopping centers or simply the busy streets.

People complain that they are being harassed by those who ask them for money, often using all kinds of false pretenses.

“On the descent ramp under the N Node Bridge from Bucium street, a charlatan man sits daily begging for fake funds with an open map in his hand.

If he sees the buses, he closes the map and pretends to leave and then come back. You should flank him from behind, i.e. from Calea Floreşti to catch him in the act”, it is shown in a report to Cluj City Hall.

The report of the Local Police shows that in 2023, 539 adults who appealed to the public’s mercy and 21 minors were detected. The number of beggars who come to Cluj-Napoca is increasing every year.
