Supermarkets will also work on the weekend, the Prime Minister decided

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced what decision was taken regarding the proposal of small and medium-sized traders that supermarkets be closed on the weekend.

Small traders have proposed to the government to restrict the opening hours of big shops on weekends for several reasons.

These include encouraging domestic producers to sell their goods and protecting trade workers so they can spend more time at home with their families on weekends.

The Minister of Agriculture, Florin Barbu, recently stated that a study will be carried out “on certain focuses of people” and, depending on the result, the necessary decision will be made in the governing coalition.

Today, at the beginning of the government meeting, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced the final decision in this case, which became the subject of national debate.

“I want to close a topic that has caused public debate, the one related to the weekend store schedule. From all the signals received from society, it is clear that it is not appropriate for shops to be closed on the weekend! As far as I can remember, markets were closed during the pandemic or shops were closed. I want to inform you that we are no longer at that stage”, said Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, according to hotnews.ro.
