The President of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians, George Simion, declared on Thursday, in Bistrita, that he had consultations with 30 non-parliamentary political formations, with which he would form “a common, democratic bloc” through which the candidates with the largest chances in the local elections of June 9, coming from the ranks of AUR or these parties.
Simion participated in the press conference organized by AUR Bistrita-Năsăud
“Post-December Romania, in these 34 years, has never had such an attack on the Constitution, on the electoral laws and on democracy and, from my point of view, we no longer live in a democracy. That’s why we had a meeting last night with 30 political formations and we are thinking of taking all the necessary steps, democratic but extreme, to block the current coalition. We no longer have institutions in the Romanian state, we no longer have the People’s Advocate, we no longer have the Constitutional Court. The electoral legislation is not subject to a constitutional check, as we have been requesting for three weeks. We are in the midst of a coup d’état. (…) We are almost ready to announce a common bloc, this time even democratic, to support the candidates with the best chances at the mayor’s office and county councils,” said the AUR leader.
George Simion mentioned that the option of AUR not submitting lists of candidates to the local elections is excluded, but he says that he is aware that they will not win many town halls, considering that the voting is organized in a single round, but the objective is to to obtain as many places as possible for local and county councilors.
The President of AUR gave assurances that his political formation will not make “counters” in the June 9 elections and that the party’s logo will be found on every ballot.
