Romanian farmers have become the subject of Moscow’s propaganda against Ukraine and the European Union. In the press briefing that she held on Wednesday, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zaharova, spoke about the dissatisfaction that Romanian farmers have in relation to products from Ukraine and says that “not surprisingly”, the Romanian government did not took no measure to protect their interests, as they “prefer not to contradict Brussels”, which is determined to help the Kiev regime, reports News.ro.

On the agenda of her press briefing, Maria Zaharova included the topic of “the supply to Romania of Ukrainian food that does not comply with EU standards”.

Although Moscow often criticizes the European Union and its values, being disturbed by the proximity of its former Soviet republics, such as Moldova, to the EU bloc, Zakharova is concerned about Ukrainian products “that do not meet the quality standards imposed by the European Union”. Thus, she felt the need to speak about “the information appearing periodically in the mass media about Ukrainian food products delivered to Romania” that do not meet these standards.

Zaharova says that “in recent years, Romania has become one of the key destinations for the transit and marketing of agricultural products from Ukraine”

“We would like to state that, due to its geographical position and the current situation, Romania has become in recent years one of the key destinations for the transit and commercialization of agricultural products from Ukraine. This led to the saturation of the local market with cheaper and often lower quality food products”, Zaharova announced to the Russian journalists.

“Consequently, in 2023 and at the beginning of 2024, a series of unprecedented protests by farmers took place in Romania, during which the operation of customs posts was repeatedly blocked with the help of agricultural machinery. Materials that exposed the poor quality of cereals, corn, rape etc. coming from the neighboring country were regularly published on the main information resources in Romania. The leaders of the local associations of agricultural producers made similar statements regarding this issue”, detailed the spokeswoman of the Russian diplomacy.

“Nevertheless, the Romanian government has not taken any clear measures to protect the interests of its farmers”, claims Zaharova.

“This is not surprising: it has been known for a long time that the current Romanian authorities prefer not to contradict Brussels, which is determined to help the Kiev regime in the sale of Ukrainian products, and, in fact, is acting to the detriment of national interests.” comments the spokeswoman before making a grim prediction: “There’s no doubt that sooner or later this approach will play them a cruel fest,” she concluded, without elaborating.
