The government approved on Thursday, March 28, the technical-economic indicators for the high-speed route between Craiova and Târgu Jiu (110.1 km), announced the Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu.

“The construction of a new high-speed road has secured financing! The high-speed route between Craiova and Târgu Jiu (110.1 km) will consist of two sections with different profiles (established based on road traffic values). In order to be able to start the tender and subsequently the construction, the technical and economic indicators were approved by the Government today, both for the Craiova – Filiaşi section (51.5 km), which will have a highway profile, and for the Filiaşi – Târgu Jiu section ( 58.6 km), which will have an express road profile”, wrote Sorin Grindeanu on Facebook.

Both objectives are provided for in the 2021-2030 Investment Program, and the total sum of 16.53 billion lei (including VAT) is allocated for their implementation.

The construction of this high-speed road, which passes through Dolj and Gorj counties, is financed by the Transport Program (PT) 2021-2027, the minister emphasized.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (MTI), through the decision adopted on Thursday by the Executive, the technical-economic indicators of the investment objective are: route length – 110.10 km (51.5 km highway and 58.6 km Road Express) ; platform width (highway) – 26 meters; platform width (Drum Expres) – 21.50 meters.

The Craiova – Filiaşi Highway and the Filiaşi – Târgu Jiu Expressway will ensure the removal of heavy and transit traffic, the development of the road transport infrastructure, the reduction of travel times by eliminating congestion, the reduction of the cost of accidents, the socio-economic development of adjacent areas and the reduction of the cost for the prevention environmental pollution.

The total value of the investment (including VAT) was estimated at over 16.5 billion lei, an amount secured from non-refundable external funds – the Transport Program (PT) 2021 – 2027 and from the state budget, through the budget of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, as well as and from other legally constituted sources, according to the public investment programs approved according to the law.

The Craiova-Filiaşi highway overlaps with the route of the Connectivity Corridor 5 “Danubius Corridor” on this sector, which is part of the Investment Program for the development of transport infrastructure for the period 2021-2030.

The sector that connects Filiaşi and Târgu Jiu can be found in the Investment Program for the development of transport infrastructure for the period 2021-2030 in the list of projects located on the secondary network – connectivity and transregional roads for the modernization and increase of safety.

The traffic values resulting from the traffic study, as well as the fact that the existing route of the road crosses many localities, led to the realization of an express road profile on the Filiaşi-Târgu Jiu sector.

The proposed works have minimal impact on the environment, states MTI. In the framework of the procedures carried out until now, the Environmental Agreement no. 5 of 28.12.2023, issued by the Environmental Protection Agency.
