Modernized sanitary units in many counties of Romania

--

A series of tragic events in the last decade, like the disputes related to the PNRR, have grounded the idea that the local hospital system has no chance in any reasonable future to provide even satisfactory medical care. Although things are not so bleak, things need to change. What is less seen is that the changes are actually happening!

The National Investment Company is heavily involved in the health system

In the next period, the largest university hospital with dental medicine profile in Romania will be inaugurated, in Sector 4 of the Capital with public funds. The objective also represents the newest medical educational facility, intended for students of the Faculty of Dentistry within the “Carol Davila” UMF. The investment represents one of the best examples of institutional collaboration: Financed by the Ministry of Development through the National Investment Company, the new objective was endowed by the City Hall of Sector 4 being, in addition to the clinic, also a component of the Faculty of Dentistry within the University of Medicine and Pharmacy .

And this new hospital unit is not an exception: throughout the country, numerous objectives have been received or are in the construction phase. CNI announces that in 2023, 5 communal dispensaries were completed in Dâmbovița, Harghita, Olt, Prahova and Vâlcea counties. At the same time, another 39 dispensaries with a total value of approximately 147 million lei are underway.

In addition to dispensaries, since 2016, CNI has realized and completed 12 other investment objectives in the health field, totaling a quarter of a billion lei. The Screening and Diagnostic Center for Oncological Diseases in the municipality of Iași or the Modernization of the Psychiatry Department of the Tulcea County Emergency Hospital or the Pediatric Corps of the Vișeu de Sus City Hospital are just a few examples.

Currently, in addition to the dispensaries currently in operation, CNI has another 40 investment objectives worth 1.98 billion lei in progress, all in the sanitary field. A new body of the Calarasi Emergency Hospital is being built. The Children’s Neuropsychomotor Recovery Section of the Techirghiol Sanatorium, the Miercurea Ciuc Emergency County Hospital and the Cavnic Psychiatry Hospital are expanding, modernizing or undergoing major repairs. At the same time, the Precista hospital settlement in Roman is being rehabilitated and expanded, and the Sinaia City Hospital and the new building of the Outpatient Department integrated at the Vaslui County Emergency Hospital are being built.

The National Investment Company supports the quality medical act in all corners of the country

Illustrative of the recent activity of the National Investment Company in the field of health is the Segarcea City Hospital. In 2015, a fire in the old outpatient clinic severely affected the unit’s activity and the consequences required that the provision of medical services be redistributed to other buildings. Thus, the patients and the staff crowded together, overlapping some activities, which jeopardized the proper performance of the medical act. After 4 years of the disaster, without conservation measures, the building deteriorated further, the carpentry could not be recovered and the need for complete restoration became evident. The City Hospital must provide medical services both for the residents of Segarcea and for the neighboring towns, serving a total of over 70,000 citizens. Meanwhile, in order to increase the access of patients in the area to medical services, several medical offices such as Ophthalmology, Urology, Cardiology, Pediatrics and Diabetes were established in the Polyclinic. Which, combined with the space crisis generated by the aftermath of the fire, congested the entire unit. The emergency service, also faced with insufficient and well-structured spaces, had to redirect patients in serious condition to the Emergency County Hospital in Craiova. Moreover, with 128 four and nine wards, the minimum of 7 square meters per patient could not be ensured, and the rooms were not equipped with their own sanitary groups. Now, with the completion of the construction sites, many of these shortcomings have come to an end. Nowadays, the buildings of the old hospital have taken on the appearance of a… tourist attraction!, and the modern ones are in step with the times. It is yet another case that shows that effective collaboration between institutions can solve seemingly hopeless situations for entire communities.

The Minister of Development, through the National Investment Company, ensured the repair, reconstruction, modernization and rehabilitation works, and the city hall is in charge of equipping it with modern equipment, with the help of European funds. The value of the entire investment amounts to 38 million lei, and the works were completed in July last year.
