According to the latest figures, the number of cases has reached 9,000. At the same time, nine deaths have been recorded in recent weeks. According to the data, 9 out of 10 measles cases are from unvaccinated people. The deputy asks his colleagues in the Parliament to support the vaccination action.

“I am a supporter of this vaccination law, but until we find a critical mass, the action of one man cannot bring about change.

I had this problem as Minister of Health, I found it year after year with each change of minister, so it’s a matter that has been going on for decades and there doesn’t seem to be a political will to bring about the change”, said the surgeon of the Oncological Institute from Cluj.

Accusations against elected officials

Patriciu Achimaş-Cadariu claims that people who oppose vaccination would be manipulated through actions carried out on social networks. Moreover, he urged the elected officials not to endanger the health of children in order to get a few votes.

“Why? Because we make fun of education, health, because in the rush for votes we end up charging or accepting all kinds of things, because under the pretext of democracy, which we didn’t learn, in fact, under the pretext of absolute freedom we gave up step by step things that we had won, paradoxically, in a dictatorship. That is, optimal vaccination coverage,” he added.

Procedure for vaccination

The deputy from Cluj claims that vaccination coverage was over 95% before 1989. Moreover, this ceiling is also recommended by the World Health Organization in terms of combating the disease.

“Let’s not play the game of the anti-vaccineists, whoever they are, from inside or outside, they are effectively threatening the health of the Romanian people. Some measures can be taken, rules can be made and imposed. The battle is between mainstream parties and new aberrant creations from the social networks,” said deputy Patriciu Achimaş-Cadariu.

The vaccination law, adopted by the Senate in 2017, stipulated that vaccination should become mandatory for children, in accordance with the structure of the national immunization calendar. However, the document was blocked in the Chamber of Deputies, the decision-making forum.
