The Catholic Easter is celebrated, this year, before the Orthodox one, on March 31. According to the legislation in force, students and teachers have the right to days off.

The Ministry of Education informed the school inspectorates that Catholic students are not required to attend classes between March 29 and April 2. That means they will have Friday, Monday and Tuesday off, writes Alba24.ro.

When do Catholic students have their EASTER HOLIDAY in 2024

Regarding Catholic teachers, the recommendation of the Ministry of Education for schools is to carry out an analysis of their number, according to edupedu.ro.

“Students who belong to a legal religious cult, other than the Orthodox one, for which Easter is celebrated on March 31, 2024, do not have the obligation to attend classes in the period 29.03-02.04 2024, as their absences are justified, upon request” , it is stated in the ministry’s address, according to the cited source.

“We recommend that at the level of each pre-university education unit, an analysis of the number of employees who benefit from these provisions be carried out. Depending on their weight, the board of directors of the unit can decide:

– the suspension of courses for these days and the establishment of recovery methods with the application of the provisions of art. 9 para. 4, letters bc of the framework Regulation on the organization and operation of pre-university education units, approved by OM 4183/2022 with subsequent amendments and additions,
– the reorganization of the school program in order to replace the teachers who benefit from these provisions.”

Easter vacation 2024 for Catholic students. What the law provides

The collective labor agreement for Education stipulates that employees who belong to a legal Christian religious cult are granted days off

– for Good Friday – the last Friday before Easter
– the first and second day of Easter
depending on the date on which they are celebrated by that cult.

“For employees who belong to a legal, Christian religious cult, the days off for Good Friday – the last Friday before Easter, the first and second day of Easter, the first and second day of Pentecost are granted depending on the date on which they are celebrated by that cult.

Employees who benefited from days off for Good Friday – the last Friday before Easter, the first and second day of Easter, the first and second day of Pentecost, both on the dates established for the legal, Christian religious cult to which they belong, as well as and for other Christian worship they will recover the additional days off based on a schedule established by the employer”.

Good Friday is on March 29, and the day after Catholic Easter on April 1.
