UPDATES: The Romanian who the media reported died on the front in Ukraine is actually alive and unharmed. The stoic Ovidiu Anton was carrying out missions to extract the wounded from the Kharkiv region, and his friend Petru Gabor announced that he had died, the information was picked up by various media, including Adevarul.ro, which in this way apologizes to the readers, to Ovidiu Stoica and his family.

Petru Gabor later posted a new message about the fate of Ovidiu “Tony” Stoica on Facebook.

“I was contacted by Stoica Ovidiu Anton and he is alive, I apologize for falling into the trap of misinformation released publicly only that there were many who posted this and everyone I contacted said the same thing that no more I find him in the conditions in which we kept in touch and every time he answered after a few hours, he also explained to me the reason for this absence and I’m glad that I was not right.”

He is the second Romanian to die in the war in Ukraine, after Rudolf Wittmann, who died in October 2023. Rudi, as his friends called him, dedicated his life to the fight for freedom and after spending several years in the Foreign Legion, he fought for a year or so for Ukraine. The end found him at the front, and at the age of 27, Rudolf became a hero of Ukraine and the fight for freedom.

Russia has tracked down more than 700 foreign volunteers fighting on the Ukrainian front, including citizens from Romania, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway and Poland, the Russian Investigative Committee announced a week ago, according to tvrinfo.ro.
