Anne Hathaway suffered a miscarriage while playing a pregnant woman: ‘I had to ‘give birth’ on stage every night”

The American actress Anne Hathaway revealed that she suffered a miscarriage in 2015 while she was playing the role of a pregnant woman in a play, the BBC reports on Tuesday.

In an interview given to Vanity Fair magazine, the famous actress from the United States, aged 41, said that her first pregnancy “didn’t work” because she couldn’t carry it to term. “I was acting in a theater show at the time and the role meant that I had to ‘give birth’ on stage every night,” she added.

Anne Hathaway, who later went on to give birth to two boys in real life, revealed that during the six-week period she starred in that show, she had to pretend “everything was fine”.

She still told the truth to her friends who came to visit her backstage.

“It was too much for me to hold,” she said.

Anne Hathaway played the role of a female pilot who becomes pregnant in the theater show “Grounded,” which ran on Broadway for six weeks in 2015. The role required the American star to pretend she was going through a birth during each performance.

During that time, the American star suffered a miscarriage.

The actress, who is married to Adam Shulman, got over that difficult period and got pregnant again. Their first son, Jonathan, was born in March 2016.

In a message published on Instagram in July 2019, Anne Hathaway announced that she was pregnant again. The couple’s second son, Jack, was born in November 2019.
