On Saturday evening, before Palm Sunday, the traditional Flower procession takes place at the Metropolis. It will start at 6:00 p.m., after the Vespers service with Litia, officiated by His Holiness Laurenţiu.

After the consecration of the willow branches, the priests and believers will surround the Metropolitan Cathedral, and will carry the icon of the holiday and pray.

The Feast of Flowers reminds us all of the Lord’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, before His Passion. On that day, Christ was greeted by a multitude of people: men, women and children who had green palm branches in their hands and who showed their joy, shouting: “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel!”. Since ancient times, palm branches were considered to be symbols of victory and, therefore, the Romans welcomed their winners in competitions or the victors in wars with such branches. With the Lord’s Entry into Jerusalem, they acquire a much deeper meaning, becoming a sign of the victory over death that Jesus Christ defeated by raising Lazarus from the dead, but especially by His Resurrection.
