Three supersonic military planes above Sibiu. The reaction of the Ministry of Defense: They are training flights at low altitudes

Sibiu residents from different neighborhoods of the city noticed around 11:20 three supersonic military aircraft that flew over Sibiu, especially in the airport areas.

Following a request sent by the editorial office of the Turnul Sfatului newspaper, the officials of the Ministry of National Defense informed that the flights observed today over Sibiu are training flights.

“On May 9 and 10, aircraft belonging to the Romanian Air Force perform training flights at low altitudes, in the south-east and south-west areas, on the territory of Romania.

Low-altitude flying can raise concerns among local communities in the vicinity of training areas. The General Staff of the Air Force informs the citizens that these exercises aim to increase the reaction capacity of the aeronautical personnel in any situation”, informed the representatives of the Press Office of the MApN.

Some of them say that they were scared by the very loud noise produced, others were surprised to see such military aircraft so close and without prior notice. “One of them made a 90-degree turn right above the block, I could see it well”, says a Sibiian who sent us a short video clip to the newsroom.

The Turnul Sfatului reporter contacted the management of the Sibiu International Airport, who confirmed the presence of the planes, and the specialists also provided a brief explanation.

“It is about three military aircraft that made a vertical pass of the runway, a pass in the axis of the runway. Nothing was prepared, the pilots were probably on a mission and when they arrived in the area they requested the control tower’s approval for a passage”, stated the director of Sibiu Airport, Marius Gârdea.
