Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) says it has caught several Russian agents from Ukraine’s state protection service who were plotting to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other senior government officials, according to Reuters.

“Counterintelligence and SBU investigators foiled plans by the FSB (Russia’s security service) to eliminate the president of Ukraine and other representatives of the top military and political leadership,” the SBU wrote on Telegram.

This is not the first alleged plot to assassinate Zelensky.

Last month, police in Poland arrested a man accused of being ready to spy for Russia’s military intelligence services as part of an alleged plot to assassinate the Ukrainian president.

Poland’s General Prosecutor’s Office said the man was accused of being prepared to pass airport security information to Russian agents.

He was trying to contact Russians directly involved in the war in Ukraine and was to pass on detailed information about the Rzeszow-Jasionka airport near the Ukrainian border, which is the gateway for international military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. The airport is under the control of American troops.
