Shoigu specified in a meeting with the leadership of the army that military and naval parades will take place in 25 cities in Russia, and soldiers stationed in local garrisons will participate in another 314 events.
“In total, approximately 150,000 people and 2,500 weapons and combat vehicles will participate in the Victory Day demonstrations. More than 9,000 people and 70 combat vehicles will participate in the main parade in Red Square,” said the Russian Defense Minister.
Units of different types of weapons will parade in Red Square, as well as cadets from the Suvorov military and Nahimov naval academy, the Army Music Academy, military women and Cossacks, added Shoigu.
Air forces participating in the war in Ukraine will also take part in the parade.
The dress rehearsal for the parade will take place on Sunday, May 5.
The Russian Minister of Defense also mentioned the exhibition of war trophies brought from Ukraine, opened to the public on May 1 in the Victory Park in the west of Moscow.
Among the “exhibits” are American Abrams tanks and German Bradley, Leopard and Marder armored vehicles, as well as war equipment produced in the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, France and Finland.
“The exhibition generated great interest. On the first day alone, it was visited by over 83,000 people”, said Şoigu.
The first exhibition of weapons captured during the fighting in Ukraine was organized in Russia in August 2022, half a year after the start of the war.
