The Kremlin denied, on Thursday, an accusation made by the USA according to which the Russian forces in Ukraine violated an international ban on the use of chemical weapons, reports Reuters, according to Agerpres.

“As usual, these accusations seem completely unfounded,” the spokesman of the Russian presidency, Dmitri Peskov, told the press.

The Kremlin spokesman told reporters that Moscow remains committed to its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).

The US accused Russia on Wednesday of violating this convention by using a chemical agent, chloropicrin, against Ukrainian troops and anti-riot agents as a “method of war” in Ukraine.

“The use of these chemicals is not an isolated incident and is likely motivated by the desire of Russian forces to remove Ukrainian forces from fortified positions and make tactical advances on the battlefield,” the US State Department wrote.
