The EU calls for an independent investigation into mass graves discovered at two hospitals in the Gaza Strip

The European Union announced on Wednesday, through the voice of a spokesperson, that it wants an “independent” investigation after the discovery of mass graves in the two main hospitals in the Gaza Strip, reports AFP, according to Agerpres.

“It is something that compels us to ask for an independent investigation into all the suspicions and circumstances” of the discovery, “because it creates the impression that there could be human rights violations,” said a spokesman for EU diplomacy. Peter Stano.

On Tuesday, the UN already called for an international investigation into the mass graves discovered in the two main hospitals in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, declared himself “horrified” by the destruction of the two largest hospitals in the Gaza Strip, al-Shifa hospital and the Nasser medical complex in Khan Younis, and by the “discovery of mass graves near these places”.

The Israeli military has denied any responsibility. The accusation that she “buried the bodies of Palestinians is baseless,” the army said.

A Civil Defense official in the Gaza Strip said on Tuesday that his teams had discovered the bodies of around 340 people in mass graves in the Nasser hospital in Khan Younis since Saturday. Some bodies had their hands tied, he added.

Regarding the al-Shifa hospital, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported at the beginning of April that it had been reduced to an “empty shell” surrounded by human corpses following the latest Israeli operation against this hospital.

Hospitals in the Gaza Strip have been the target of heavy attacks in the military operation that the Israeli army is carrying out in the Palestinian enclave after the attack carried out by Hamas fighters on October 7 in the southern part of the Israeli territory.

According to Israel, the Palestinian Islamist movement used the hospitals to launch attacks and hide tunnels and weapons there, which Hamas denies.
