Donald Trump, former president of the United States and the current Republican candidate in the November elections, fooled his supporters with a message announcing that he was “suspending his campaign”. With this “joke” Trump hopes to get new donations, as he needs money for the campaign and to pay his massive bail.

The former president, who is trying to oust Democrat Joe Biden from the White House, sent this short text to his constituents via email and text along with a link. By accessing the message, his supporters arrived at a website and were asked to donate $5,500 or $3,300 to the election campaign.

“Did you really think I would suspend my campaign? April 1st Hoax!” Trump wrote in all caps. For several years, American voters have been bombarded with text messages, e-mails and calls asking them to contribute financially to candidacies.

This forces candidate teams to be increasingly creative in order to stand out. In a country where electoral victories are won with billions of dollars, the donations they collect are extremely valuable.
