INCREDIBLE! The taxi driver accused of killing a motorcyclist in the Horizon area, 4 years ago, involved in a new accident, in the same place and under the same conditions. This time, a child arrived at the hospital

A 71-year-old taxi driver caused an accident, after trying to turn on the spot, from the first lane and without securing himself sufficiently, in front of the C&C hotel in Orizont, Bacău. Four years ago, the same taxi driver was doing the same maneuver, as a result of which a motorcyclist died (details HERE).

On Thursday, May 9, 2024, around 4:30 p.m., the police were alerted to the fact that a traffic incident took place on Calea Mărășești in the municipality of Bacău. “From the first checks it emerged that a 71-year-old man, while driving a car in the direction of the streets Calea Mărășești – Calea Republicii in the municipality, allegedly tried to make a left turn in front of an accommodation unit, at which time collided with a car driven by a 26-year-old woman”, IPJ Bacău reported.

“Following the road event, the vehicles were damaged and a minor was injured, a passenger in the car driven by the 26-year-old young woman, who was transported to the hospital for medical care.
Both drivers were tested with the breathalyzer, the results were negative. The investigations are continued within a criminal file under the aspect of committing the crime of culpable bodily harm”, the official statement also states.

Same driver, same maneuver

Four and a half years ago, the same taxi driver caused a tragedy, with the same maneuver, as a result of which a young motorcyclist died. At that time, Ziarul de Bacău wrote about the problem of road markings, and meanwhile the marked line is legally discontinuous and allows turning, but not from the first lane and not without the driver checking.

In fact, merchants in the area now called the motorcyclist’s father, who came to the scene of the accident. He talked to the driver and found out that the taxi driver even blamed him for causing the accident and tried to offer him 1,200 lei in order to reach an amicable settlement. The woman returned the money, after, out of shock, she noticed that her son had a head wound, a swelling, from which blood was flowing.

Because the criminal case opened in 2019 has not ended, the taxi driver renews his license every month, with a simple application to the Prosecutor’s Office. In fact, he pleaded not guilty to the investigators.

“His attitude shows that he didn’t understand anything. He should have given up taxi driving, because he’s old, he killed a man. I believe that this man is a danger on the road, and the legislation should be improved,” Iulian Ghervase, the father of the motorcyclist who died in the accident four years ago, said for Ziarul de Bacău.

The criminal trial in which the 71-year-old taxi driver is accused is coming to an end. The trial dragged on, because the original judge resigned, after he had reached an advanced stage with the investigation, and the proceedings resumed from the beginning. A second magistrate retired after hearing the witnesses, and thus more time was lost. Now, the file is with the third judge, on May 25th the verdict is expected.
