Deputy Daniel Gheba (AUR) declares on Friday that in the next month we will be bombarded with political speeches, promises and slogans that have the role of manipulating us emotionally. Let’s be careful who we choose, says MP AUR. Let’s be responsible citizens, exercise our right to vote conscientiously and assume that the future of this country also depends on us. Romania deserves leaders who reflect the values of the Romanian people, says Gheba.

  • “Today the electoral campaign officially started and I would like to turn our attention to a deep and current topic: the mentality full of hatred and envy that Romanians have towards each other, and the role that some political “leaders” play in perpetuating this behavior.

I noticed that Romanians, in general, are critical, even overly critical, when they meet each other. Their first reaction is to talk negatively and even complain: “This is not good, it is not good there, we have not achieved anything, we have no highways, Romania is in crisis, we are doing badly, etc.” This tendency is not specific only to the Romanian people. Other peoples, such as Bulgarians or Serbs, face the same self-criticism.

However, what differentiates our behavior, Romanians, to a greater extent than others, is our tendency to self-criticize to the point of self-flagellation, especially in front of foreigners. This creates an extremely negative impression. The other nations that criticize themselves when they are in front of foreigners still have a limit and protect and promote their values and dignity. We, the Romanians, on the other hand, present ourselves in an even worse light than we are in reality.

How can we regain our dignity? Once every four years, we have a unique chance to influence the destiny of this country and chart its future direction through the political vote. This year we have the opportunity to decide the fate of Romania for the next four years and even for its long-term future.

Voting is our democratic weapon. It is the instrument by which we express our will and choose the representatives who will make decisions on our behalf. Each ballot is a stone in the construction of our collective future. Don’t underestimate your power to make a difference!

In the next month we will be bombarded with political speeches, promises and slogans that are meant to manipulate us emotionally. But let’s be careful who we choose! Let’s not be attracted by political people with populist speech, who promise miracles and quick solutions with the aim of deceiving us. These fake cardboard leaders who incite hatred and violence against the current political class actually have their own hidden interests and harmful intentions for the Romanian people. They know that if you want to destroy a people, if you want to destroy a man, a family, a nation you have to eliminate the things that make them strong and above all you have to make them forget who they are.

But we must be discerning and at the same time we have a responsibility to inform ourselves, analyze and choose wisely. Let us not fall into the trap of demagogues who manipulate our emotions and lead us away from the truth. Let’s not forget that our vote is not only for us, but also for future generations.

Every day, on television, we see images of compromised people who betray their principles and speak for their own interests. How can our children trust such models? Trust cannot be built out of nothing. It is based on realistic optimism. We must be optimistic, but also be aware of the realities and not be fooled by pompous speeches.

I think the time has come to leave behind the feelings of inferiority and humiliation and mature as a people. To me, growing up means dignity, and dignity comes from acknowledging both the mistakes and the good things we’ve done.

Let’s be responsible citizens, exercise our right to vote conscientiously and assume that the future of this country also depends on us. Romania deserves leaders who reflect the values of the Romanian people, who represent us with dignity and work for the common good, and not desperate agitators who act at the behest of other forms of external influence. Let’s be the guardians of democracy and choose peace and not conflict, even if conflict often comes disguised in more attractive forms, let’s not be deceived anymore!
