Thursday evening, as at the start of any election campaign, at midnight, the parties went to put up their posters. A scandal broke out between AUR and USR, a party that claims to have been a victim and has paranoid theories.
Without any evidence, those from USR claim that PSD and PNL ordered those from aUR to behave as they have behaved countless times before. USR is lying that ilie Sîrbu is the personal adviser of Cosmin Tabără, a position from which he resigned. “On the night of May 9, a group of AUR members interrupted the election campaign launch event for Dominic Fritz and Alin Nica in Piața Unirii, with chants, insults and intimidation. We consider that the incident produced by AUR on the night of May 9 to 10 in Piața Unirii is a challenge and that, in Timișoara at least, George Simion’s party executes what PSDPNL orders it to do. Moreover, the AUR candidate for the Timișoara City Hall, Ilie Sârbu, is the personal adviser of the PNL vice-mayor Cosmin Tabără, who is also running on the PSD-PNL list for the local council”, the USR lie.
The users say that Ruben Lațcau was just caught in the middle of the events. “While Dominic Fritz, Alin Nica, together with Cătălin Drula, Eugen Tomac and Ludovic Orban, were giving statements to the press, in front of the display boards, a hostile group of AUR members forced their way through the group of supporters, instead of waiting, civilly, for the event to complete. What created a stampede, in which the vice-mayor Ruben Lațcau was also involved, positioned between the mayor Dominic Fritz and the violent group from the AUR. It’s not the first time that the AUR has acted aggressively: it entered, also by force, the Timișoara City Hall two years ago with the stated intention of literally kicking the mayor Dominic Fritz out of the City Hall”the press release also states.
Userists say that PSD and PNL pasted posters over theirs. “While Dominic Fritz and Alin Nica were detained in the ambush provoked by the AUR, PSDPNL leaders were quietly pasting posters in violation of the law: over the posters of Dominic Fritz and other candidates and on more billboards than the law allows. This campaign atmosphere filled with hatred and violence is not specific to Timisoara. We are not surprised that AUR sympathizers react with brute force when the public space is flooded with dirt against Dominic Fritz, with Nicolae Robu’s continuous attacks against him and even with calls to violence coming from the Robu-Simonis camp via various sympathizers“, the statement also states.
