MET Eireann has issued an urgent warning ahead of the hot spell this weekend.

Mercury is set to hit 22C in parts of the country today and tomorrow.

Temperatures are set to soar this weekend
Rain holds off until Sunday before a wet week

Met Eireann’s Andrew Doran-Sherlock issued an update for the incoming mini scorcher.

But he said more “unsettled” conditions are on the cards for Sunday.

He said: “Any cloud, mist or fog will generally clear away in the morning to leave a dry and mostly sunny day.

“Highs of 18C to 22C but a bit cooler near to southern and southeastern coasts due to an onshore breeze.”

There is a small possibility of fog in these areas too.

Moving into Saturday, he said: “Saturday will be another mostly dry day with plenty of warm sunshine.”

The weather is set to turn a little cloudier in the evening with some rain particularly in the northwest.

Met Eireann issued a warning ahead of high UV indices over the sunny spell.

Andrew advised: “For the next few days the UV index will be moderate bordering on high.

“So, do remember to be sun smart and use sun cream.”

WET TOWER

A turn is expected in the weather from Sunday.

Met Eireann have advised of “heavy” rain and thunderstorms.

They said: “Sunday will bring a mix of cloud and sunny spells with showers or longer spells of rain, some heavy with the chance of isolated thunderstorms.

“Highest temperatures of 15 to 19C in light and variable breezes.

“On Sunday night, showers will gradually die out.

“However, rain will move in from the southwest by morning.”

Monday continues wet with heavy rain and thunderstorms over the eastern part of the country with highest temperatures from 13C to 17C.

Tuesday the outlook is cooler with temperatures of 11C to 14C with rain continuing.

Met Eireann advised: “Persistent or heavy rain will move in from the east and will extend westwards.”

Localized flooding is possible on Tuesday, especially in Leinster.

The remainder of the week is also promised to be wet and cool.

Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather advised a low pressure system moving in next week is the culprit behind the sudden change to cooler and wetter conditions.

The good weather should return once the low pressure system clears but Alan advised he is unsure when this can be expected.

He said: “Low pressure system moves in early next week after showers Sunday but unclear how long that system will take to clear.

“It could stall for a few days dropping a lot of rain or clear off quicker.

“Once it does clear then higher pressure with better weather is likely to return.”
