We have not a drop of humility in the vessel of our souls and we have completely sunk into the depths of iniquities. We have no intention of returning and we have settled down in the grave of laziness. We rejected God’s mercy and burdened ourselves with many sins. For this, we ask you, Most Pure Mother of God, to be our invincible defender at the judgment and before the fearful hour of death arrives, to call for our repentance.

As One Who gave birth to the One from the seat of the cherubim, free us, those lost in the prison of sins, approaching You with the key of Your prayer. Do not leave us in the time of dangers, but as One Who is the Source of the faithful’s mercy, water us with the drops of Your mercies. Resist all the temptations of the unseen enemies with Your strong hand, as One Who held in Your arms the One Who with His hand built the whole creature and places stars of divine thoughts in the sky of the minds of the faithful.

Make us wise so that at all times we may offer you sacrifices of prayers and above all to weave a crown of praises to you, so that we too may acquire the crown of salvation and eternal life to the glory of God forever. Amen!

The Life Story of Emperor Leo the Great

In the past, when he was not yet emperor, Leo the Great was walking through a forest near Constantinople. There, he met an old blind man who asked him for water. Finding no source of water, a gentle voice was heard telling the emperor to continue searching through the forest, where he would find a spring.

“There is no need to strain, because the water is near! Walk more through the forest, take the cloudy water with your hands, quench the blind man’s thirst and then anoint his dark eyes with it”, said Miaca to the Lord Leo the Great.

The king found the spring, took cloudy water with his hands and quenched the blind man’s thirst, then anointed his eyes with that water, and he regained his sight. Amazed by this miracle, Leo the Great, when he became emperor, built a church near that spring, as a sign of gratitude for the help received from the Mother of God.
