Andrei Tinu, the candidate supported by AUR for the Mayor of Sector 2 in Bucharest, announced his withdrawal from the electoral race on Thursday morning. The announcement comes after other withdrawals from the formation’s candidate positions.

“I have decided to withdraw from the race for the position of mayor of Sector 2. It is a common approach with that of my republican colleagues on the AUR lists for local councils in Bucharest. Why only now? Because today the candidacies are final and no Republican colleague has secured an eligible position. We invested money, time, energy and soul in the construction of a new political project not to be members of the AUR, but to represent republican values and principles within the sovereignist alliance, based on a protocol and an algorithm. But unfortunately, due to bureaucratic issues and negotiation errors, this was no longer possible. That’s why my colleagues and I decided to give up the electoral race and return to the Republican Party of Romania, where we will continue to implement our political projects”wrote Andrei Tinu on Facebook, specifying that he will continue the collaboration with AUR.

For his part, Marian Cucșa, the head of the political formation, accused Tinu of “playing PSD”, in a message on the social media platform.

“Even if the Republican Party will no longer have a candidate for the City Hall of Sector 2, but with the desire not to be tainted by accusations of collusion with the PSD, we have decided to withdraw the candidacy of Andrei Tinu for the position of mayor and support the AUR list for the City Council of Sector 2. At the same time, I want it to be very clear that neither Andrei Tinu nor those who chose to betray the Republican Party with him no longer have the status of a member, nor will they have anything to look for in the party”stated Cucșa.

Wave of withdrawals in GOLD

The announcement made by Tinu comes after another withdrawal for the City Hall of Sector 6 in Bucharest. Valentin Florea, the AUR candidate for the Sector 6 City Hall, announced last month that he was resigning from the party, being disappointed by the direction taken by the formation led by George Simion, which he described as “garbage”.

At the beginning of May, Elena Năstăsoiu, the AUR candidate for the position of mayor of the municipality of Buzău, announced her withdrawal from the electoral race, together with 17 other candidates on the list for the Municipal Local Council.

At the end of April, hundreds of AUR members switched to PNL, accusing that the county branch of the party led by George Simion did not offer them any eligible place on the list of candidates for the County Council.
