More than 650 couples celebrating “Golden Wedding” anniversaries, awarded on Family Day

The City Hall of Iași, through the Local Directorate of Personal Records (DLEP), is organizing Sunday, May 12, starting at 11 a.m., in the Copou Exhibition Park, the 20th edition of the International Family Day.

More than 650 families who celebrated 50 years of uninterrupted marriage between May 10, 2023 and May 7, 2024 are invited to the event. “This is the largest number of couples awarded in the two-decade history of Family Day. Among them, more than 70 families who submitted the application between March and April 2024 will be awarded during the festivity by Mayor Mihai Chirica”announce the representatives of the municipality.

During the event, couples celebrating their “Golden Wedding” this year will have the opportunity to participate in a raffle with five prizes consisting of a pair of gold wedding rings. According to the program announced by the organizers, the action will start at 11 o’clock, with the reception of the guests and a folk music recital performed by the well-known folk music performer Ștefan Pintilie, after which, from 12 o’clock, the award ceremony for the couples will take place and raffle prize draw. The anniversary of the couples who this year celebrate 50 uninterrupted years of marriage will end with an extraordinary recital by Fuego.

On September 23, 1993, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted Resolution no. 47 / 237 by which May 15 is declared the International Day of the Family. In 1994, the Government of Romania decided to mark this international event by celebrating the Romanian Family Day on May 15.

To mark this event, on May 7, 2003, the Iasi City Council adopted Resolution no. 236/2003 which unanimously approved the awarding, in a festive setting, of an Honorary Diploma and a prize to each family from Iași that has completed 50 years of marriage, the necessary funds to be allocated from the local budget, being the first initiative of this kind in the country. From 2003 until now, over 6,300 couples who have completed 50 years of uninterrupted marriage have been awarded by the Iași City Hall. Edi MACRI
