The National Union of Police and Contractual Personnel (SNPPC) – an organization that includes both military retirees and police officers on the verge of retirement – announces that it is going out into the streets.

More precisely near the MApN headquarters (on the sidewalk in front of the Cathedral of the Salvation of the Nation).

Recently, the justifiable grievances of military retirees have intensified, and the associations and organizations of military personnel in reserve and retirement, gathered under the auspices of the Forum of Associative Structures of SAOPSN, initiated steps to organize a street protest, through which to draw attention public to the political factors deciding on the procrastination of legislative discrimination regarding the legal regime of state military pensions (regulated by Law no. 223/2015, with subsequent amendments), claims the SNPPC in a press release that also specifies:

These grievances became more acute after last year’s amendment of Law no. 223/2015 and the recent adoption of a normative act, by which only the amount of the military / professional rank of active personnel was increased, excluding military retirees from this right.

Local police officers take to the streets

In order to remedy this discrimination, the SNPPC officially addressed the Defense Committees of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, in April this year, requesting the adoption of a legislative amendment to complete and amend Law no. 223/2015 on state military pensions, whereby the military/professional rank of reserve and retired cadres is permanently updated, in relation to the amount of active military cadres and police officers (I did not support from the beginning the amendment that referred to the rank update reservists by amending the State of military personnel, because it did not meet the basic conditions regarding the legality and constitutionality of such an approach to the situation in question).

Given the fact that the legislative amendment in question is still being procrastinated, we consider that the protest organized by the SAOPSN Forum, on May 9, 2024, starting at 12:00, near the MApN headquarters (on the sidewalk in front of the Cathedral of the Salvation of the Nation, as it turns out from the Protocol signed with the Capital City Hall), followed by a march to the Chamber of Deputies, are consistent with the legitimate claim of military pensioners, a claim also supported by an official Communiqué dated yesterday, May 6, of the Association of Reserve and Retired Military Personnel from MAI (ANCMRR).

In this way, we specify that the SNPPC – an organization in the ranks of which are active both police officers who are approaching or have met the retirement age and conditions, as well as union members with military pensioner status – expresses its adherence to the approach of the SAOPSN Forum and, in in agreement with the position expressed by the MAI Profile Association (ANCMRR), recommends the individual participation of reserve members, especially those from the Capital and the surrounding area, in the announced protest.

The Federation of Trade Unions from the National Administration of Penitentiaries (FSANP) has announced that it is joining the protest.
