A road accident took place on Wednesday, near the intelligent speed limiter recently installed in the village of Ghermănești in the commune of Snagov (located near Bucharest). A surveillance camera captured the moment.
According to the images posted on Facebook by Info Trafic Romania, the driver seems to have lost control of the car before the limiter, then entered the dividing poles in the pre-signaling area and, later, into a sign on the sidewalk.
“How do you explain it? Video of the moment of the accident that took place in the vicinity of the smart limiter that was recently installed in the town of Snagov”writes in the post of the Info Trafic Romania Facebook page.
The driver, fined 990 lei
According to the Ilfov County Police Inspectorate, the accident occurred due to speed.
“On May 8, at around 5:09 a.m., in the area where an intelligent speed limiter is installed, i.e. DJ 101B, at km 23 + 450 from the town of Ghermănești, a road event occurred, resulting in material damage, context in which, a 48-year-old driver, would not have adapted the speed to the road conditions, a circumstance in which he entered the separating poles in the area of pre-signaling and delimitation of the directions of travel, and later with a road sign on sidewalk. The man was tested with the alcohol test device, the result being negative“, Ilfov sent to the Police Inspectorate.
The traffic police from Snagov fined the driver 990 lei.

How the smart limiter works
The first intelligent speed limiter in Romania has just been installed in the commune of Snagov, near Bucharest. Motorists traveling on DJ 101B are warned in Ghermănești – Ilfov county, from over 150 meters away, that there is a pedestrian crossing ahead with an intelligent speed limiter.
The bumper rises six and a half centimeters if sensors in the asphalt detect a speed greater than 30 kilometers per hour, but lowers if drivers fall within this limit.
It is a technology brought from Mexico: the system has a button that pedestrians can press when they want to cross the street safely, and the limiter rises.
The cost of installing an intelligent one-way speed limiter is 130,000 lei, but the device in Ghermanesti was installed free of charge, as part of a pilot project.
Such a limiter could also be installed in the Pipera area near the Capital.
