After numerous rumors and leaks, Google has finally decided to officially reveal the new Pixel 8a phone. It has the design lines borrowed from its bigger siblings Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, with rounded edges, aluminum metal frame and plastic back. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 3, and the phone has received IP67 certification for water and dust resistance. As already rumored, the Google Pixel 8a will be available in Bay (blue), Aloe (green), Porcelain (white) and Obsidian (black) color variants.
And the leaks related to the display of Pixel 8a were true: the terminal benefits from a compact screen, with a diagonal of 6.1 inches, a pOLED panel with a resolution of 2400×1800 and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The peak brightness can go up to 2000 nits or 1400 nits when playing HDR content.
There are no surprises on the camera side either: the main sensor is 64 MP, with an aperture of 1.89, and the ultra-wide sensor is 13 MP, with an aperture of 2.2. The selfie camera uses a 13MP sensor and is capable of 4K 30fps recording, while the rear cameras can shoot 4K 60fps. There are also functions such as optical image stabilization on the main and ultra-wide cameras, 5x digital zoom, but also software options such as Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, Face and Photo Unblur, etc.
Obviously, the Google Pixel 8a uses its own Tensor G3 chip, alongside the Titan M2 coprocessor. The phone benefits from 8GB of top-of-the-line LPDDR5x RAM and 128 or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage space. The battery has a capacity of 4492 mAh, with the possibility of charging by wire at 18W or wirelessly via the Qi standard.
The Pixel 8a will ship with Android 14 on board and will benefit from no less than seven years of software support for OS upgrades and security updates. The phone will also receive AI functions such as Circle to Search, Pixel Call Assist, Audio Emoji or Google Gemini.
The fingerprint sensor is integrated into the screen, and the phone includes stereo speakers, an NFC chip and support for Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, USB 3.2 connectivity and dual SIM (in the physical nano SIM + eSIM configuration).
Google Pixel 8a has official European prices of €549 for the 128GB model and €609 for the 256GB model. Unfortunately, once again pre-orders on the Google website are not available in Romania, the rumors according to which this will be the company’s first phone officially sold in our country end up being false.
