Marcel Ciolacu launched a new warning for drivers. The head of the PSD claimed that the legislation in Romania is too relaxed, and that “too powerful” cars are one of the causes of accidents in our country.

Marcel Ciolacu wants to see a tightening of legislation and punishments. The Prime Minister was asked how he explains the high number of road accidents in Romania. Thus, he argued that we have “roads too narrow and cars too powerful”.

The head of the PSD also pleaded for tougher punishments.

“We have too narrow roads and too powerful cars. We have relaxed legislation”, says Marcel Ciolacu.

He says legislative changes need to be made the moment you top the statistics.

“When, statistically, you reach first place, legislative changes must be made, until you return to a European average”, concluded Ciolacu.

Titi Aur is of the opinion that the current way drivers are trained is insufficient

Defensive leadership specialist Titi Aur also spoke about this topic. He said the current way drivers are trained is insufficient.

For this reason, he says, he has launched an extensive project to study and research methods by which the safety of motor vehicle and motorcycle drivers can be improved.

Titi Aur says that he launched this message after noticing a cosmetic presentation of the road accidentology phenomenon.

“Recently, I have been witnessing a cosmetic presentation, by the state authorities, of the road accidentology phenomenon. In this context, please allow me to make a few comments:

1. It is accepted worldwide and European to report the number of deaths in road accidents per million inhabitants.

According to this way of reporting, Romania is in last place in Europe with 86 deaths/million while the Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Ireland) have 22-26 deaths/million, the European average is 46 and the penultimate country in this ranking, Bulgaria is 78.

It’s bad, but it seems acceptable, because…”What to do? There has to be someone in last place too.” probably say those who are paid to deal with road safety in our country!

For good information, in the United States of America there are 140 deaths per million inhabitants”, Titi Aur said.

Secondly, he says, in Romania, the medical criteria by which the injured resulting from a road accident are classified have changed since 2021. Thus, a person can enter either the “seriously injured” category or the “slightly injured” category.

He also says the number of serious accidents has dropped “out of the blue”. According to the figures provided by him, between 2004 and 2019, we had, on average, approximately 8,000 serious accidents per year.

Later, the number decreased in 2020, in the context of the pandemic. Then, in 2021, according to the new reporting criteria, the number of serious accidents dropped sharply, to around 4,000 per year.
