The intelligent speed limiter has sensors mounted in the asphalt, which detect vehicles exceeding the legal speed limit around the pedestrian crossing where it is located. If this happens, the limiter rises, and if drivers slow down, it drops back to the asphalt. The technology comes from Mexico.

Drivers of vehicles driving on the county road in Ghermănești, in Ilfov, are warned from 160 meters that there is a pedestrian crossing ahead with an intelligent speed limiter. The threshold rises from the asphalt to a height of 6 and a half centimeters if the sensors detect a speed greater than 30 km/h.

“It is not a purchased model, it is a prototype that is implemented in Romania for the first time in Snagov commune. We came to the conclusion that it is necessary to install such a smart bumper here, in the school area”. One day after this statement by Mayor Mihai Anghel, the first accident took place in Snagov.

In the images posted on social networks, you can see how a Logan car comes at speed, the driver loses control of the steering wheel at the moment when he reaches approximately the sensors of the smart limiter, enters the opposite direction, tries to right the vehicle but skids, turns and hits the to the side, even the pole on which there is a pedestrian crossing sign.

Fortunately, the footage also shows the driver getting off the wheel on his own and appears to have suffered only minor injuries.

Snagov City Hall, accused by many Internet users of having installed the limiter on the road, sent a statement on Wednesday, on the Facebook page: “For a correct information of the public opinion regarding the road event produced on 05.08.2024, at 05:09 near the speed limiter installed on the radius of Snagov, we inform you that this is not the cause of the accident.

The images captured by the video cameras that monitor the road traffic reveal that the driver who was driving the vehicle, loses control of the steering wheel before the pre-signaling area and the delimitation of the directions of travel, possibly due to the increased travel speed. In that area, the speed limit is 30 km/h.

As can be seen, the driver loses control of the steering wheel from a distance of almost 80 m away and stops in the area of the limiter, which at that time was not activated, being programmed to work only in the time interval 08:00 – 20:00 “.
