February 2019. A little late – only after almost years of mandate -, an agency parody, called “Roșia Today”, gives place to KWI at “The skeleton of fools”, and awards him the distinction “for the most loyal viewer of political life in Romania”.
February 2020. Still later – but better than never! – KWI receives, on a page in a social network, the “Oscar for the soundtrack of the silent film “Silence”; the motivation of the awardees being that he “sensationally combined all the elements from the mentioned film: the long and oppressive silence, the short silence, the silence of careful observation, the music in the mind and the prolonged silence for 4-5 years (at that time, it was not known that on 10…). It was masterful! I had to choose between his soundtrack and the song played by a carp in his mind. It was an easy choice.”
July 2024. More than predictable, at the summit in Washington, in a ceremony as private as possible, so that the main hero is not filled with even more “glory” than until that moment, the same i s -could award the Oscar for the best interpretation of the role of the losing candidate for NATO leadership.
However, until then there is still about a month, let’s see the latest news. Or week if you want. Last week it was announced, this week (Wednesday, May 8) the award ceremony will take place, nicknamed the “Oscars of Washington”. Among the laureates – naturally, from now on don’t be surprised…- and KWI. The wonder – almost stupor – intervenes only when we are presented with the arguments that were the basis for awarding the distinction to the character in question, very precisely “his remarkable career, for the exemplary leadership of Romania and for his role as a transatlantic and European leader”.
Wow! And in translation, wow! The qualifications almost rival “Hero among heroes”, “Most beloved son of the people”, “Genius of the Carpathians”, “Great leader”, “Fiery patriot”, “Wise helmsman”, “Brilliant strategist, valiant standard bearer”, “Hero world peace”, “Genius builder” – awarded to one of the predecessors of KWI from Cotroceni.
To complete and make more eloquent the image of the festivity on May 8, that is, to see who are the “fellows” of KWI, I specify that the same kind of awards will be given to the American Secretary of Commerce, a general, also American, and a Malaysian actress (of Chinese origin).
Romania, it seems, is haunted by a curse of the “two faces” of those in charge. One face is seen from the outside, completely different from the Romanians. And, completely objectively, I think the latter is much closer to reality and more defining for the characters in question. As a consequence, perhaps the American association that will award KWI on May 8 should have also consulted the Romanian people, before emanating the phrase “exemplary leadership of Romania”. And it was not difficult, it was enough to go through the news in the press, chronologically, such as “in less than two years since he has been in charge of the country, he has lost almost half of his popularity”; “enters eighth presidential year with lowest approval rating ever”; “he is the Romanian president with the lowest trust rating one year before the end of his mandate”.
Taking all the elements into account, it can be said that the character’s place would be much more appropriate on the list of “Golden Raspberry” winners (the opposite of the Oscars). Another function won’t get anyway…
