The involvement and experience of employees have a significant contribution to the success of any company, as shown by more and more specialists in the field of communication and human resources. They point out that engaged employees are not only more productive, but contribute significantly to a positive work culture and a higher level of customer satisfaction. Gallup State of the Global Workplace report from 2023 mentions that the lack of employee involvement can reach a cost of 8.8 trillion dollars in lost productivity, worldwide, a value equal to 9% of global GDP.

MedLife, the leader of the medical market in Romania and the largest employer in the private medical sphere, sets an example on the labor market in Romania, regarding measures for the engagement and well-being of employees, with the first medical expedition to Vârfu Omu organized in 2023. The OMU project is a reference, both locally and abroad, in terms of initiatives dedicated to the well-being of the people in the team. The confirmation is given by the recognition received at national and international level, the most recent award obtained by MedLife being the one on March 19 at the COMMA – Communication Awards, one of the important competitions in the communication industry in Romania and Moldova: gold in the category Best Employee Engagement & Experience Campaigns.

The first medical expedition to the Omu Peak carried out by MedLife – a measure to combat the burnout of medical teams

After the pandemic, professional fatigue and burnout of medical teams have become increasing challenges for health professionals. a study carried out by the Romanian College of Physicians revealed worrying results, especially regarding the correlation between the risk of burnout and the declared intention to migrate abroad. According to the study, 36% of doctors were at risk of clinically manifesting a burnout syndrome, the main component contributing to this risk being exhaustion (58% of the total score). Moreover, 6 out of 10 doctors under the age of 35 stated a probable (40.3%) or certain (17.2%) intention to migrate.

Starting from this reality, in 2023, MedLife, as the largest employer in the medical field, with a team of more than 12,000 people today, employees and collaborators, launched a unique initiative, for medical and support teams, with the aim of combating this phenomenon – the first medical expedition to the Omu Peak.

Thus, on June 10, 2023, almost 800 doctors, assistants, psychologists, pharmacists, nurses and other members of the medical and auxiliary staff from the MedLife Group, but also from several state health units throughout the country, climbed the Omu Peak (2,507 m ), the 11th highest peak in Romania, under the leadership of experienced mountain guides, coordinated by mountaineer David Neacșu. Along with this event, MedLife people also set a world record approved by Guinness World Records, for the largest image of a human chromosome. The previous record was set in 2019 and belonged to a group of 415 people from India.

Conceived as a collective health exercise, the MedLife expedition represented a unique experience for our colleagues. Courage, team spirit and the desire to succeed were the ingredients that brought us to the top and we are happy to continue to receive the recognition of experts in the field. We, in turn, hope that this project will become an example of good practices and a source of inspiration for the health of companies in Romania”, declares Ina Bădărău-Ilie, Head of Communications, MedLife Group.

An internal survey conducted on several hundred respondents, 3 months after the event, showed the extraordinary effects of the expedition on the emotional state of the employees of the medical network. 85% said that the Omu Peak Expedition made them feel proud to be MedLife employees, and 70% said that their emotional state at work improved and the level of optimism after the expedition is good to very good.

Gold and bronze at the COMMA Communication Awards for the campaign “Hope doesn’t die of cancer”

During the COMMA competition on March 19, MedLife was also awarded with 2 other awards, in addition to the one mentioned above, namely gold in the Best Influencer Communication Campaigns category and bronze in the Creative Idea of the Year category, both for “Hope doesn’t die of cancer”, the first free genetic testing program addressed to children recently diagnosed with cancer. The program is run exclusively from MedLife’s own funds, being implemented with the support of good doctors from the medical genetics division, part of the Group.

The multiple European and world junior and senior swimming champion, David Popovici, joined the campaign by donating the gold medal won at the World Championships in Budapest in the men’s 200 m freestyle, to be transformed into golden ribbons, a symbol of the fight against cancer at Children. The 100 bows were given to the Fundeni Clinical Institute and will be given to the little survivors. Moreover, other athletes – Maria Olaru and Mihai Leu, voluntarily joined the campaign, donating medals to be turned into ribbons for children with cancer.

Launched a year ago, the SperanţaNuMoareDeCancer program had 300 children as beneficiaries, representing more than half of the number of those diagnosed annually with oncological conditions.

<> is the mission we have undertaken and which guides us in everything we do, whether we are talking about initiatives for our teams, for patients or for local communities. The recognition we received means an additional confirmation of the fact that we are on the right track, and this gives us the strength to continue developing such initiatives in the future”, adds Ina Bădărău-Ilie.
