The candidacy of Neculai Miron, the mayor of Bosanci commune, from the AUR for the position of president of the Suceava County Council was rejected.
On Saturday, the Suceava Court of Appeal rejected the appeals submitted by the candidate and the party Alliance for the Union of Romanians Suceava, they were rejected and are final.
On Friday, the Suceava Court rejected the appeals in the first instance and determined that Neculai Miron does not have the legal right to run for the presidency of the Suceava CJ.
As the decision of the Suceava Court of Appeal is final and cannot be appealed to another court, the AUR party will not have a candidate for the position of president of the Suceava County Council and the people of Suceava will only be able to vote for a list of councillors.
We remind you that on May 1, 2024, the Suceava County Electoral Office (BEJ) rejected the candidacy of Neculai Miron from the AUR to the Suceava County Council and found that, according to the law, a person cannot simultaneously run for the position of mayor and as president of the County Council. The decision was taken by majority vote.
The analysis of Neculai Miron’s candidate file was made following a notification submitted by PNL Suceava, which invoked the provisions of Constitutional Court Decision no. 424/11 July 2023, which stipulates that a person cannot simultaneously run for the position of mayor of an administrative-territorial unit, and for the position of president of the County Council.
