This year’s Easter holidays turned into a dark time for the family of the 38-year-old man who died after his car was hit by a train.

The tragedy happened on DN14, at kilometer 27, at a level crossing with the railway between Sibiu and Mediaș, more precisely, between the towns of Ruși and Șeica Mare.

The impact was so strong that the man was trapped in the car he was driving. Rescuers arrived at the scene of the accident, but the victim was in critical condition. The man was in cardio-respiratory arrest and, unfortunately, the efforts of the doctors could not save him. The medical personnel had to confirm the death.

“Three SMURD crews went to the scene, one of them with a doctor and the emergency doctor’s car. The 38-year-old man was in cardio-respiratory arrest, unfortunately, despite the efforts made, he did not respond to resuscitation maneuvers, the doctor present at the scene declaring death”explained the spokesperson of ISU Sibiu, according to novatv.ro

A simple mistake put his life in danger

The man allegedly ignored light and sound warning signals that announced the train was approaching. This mistake was fatal to him.

“From the first investigations carried out, it emerged that, while driving a van from Mediaș towards Sibiu, a 38-year-old man from Alba county, alone in the car, would not have respected the meaning of the red color of the traffic light installed at the crossing, entered the railway and was hit by a passenger train traveling from Sibiu to Mediaș. The vehicle was thrown off the roadway”according to IPJ Sibiu.

As a result of the strong impact, the passengers and the train driver did not suffer.
